Kind stranger records couple's marriage proposal but makes one big mistake

Send Push

A woman was delighted when a kind stranger managed to capture the moment her partner got down on one knee to propose to her - but when they watched the footage back, realised a hilarious mistake had been made. A proposal is a major life milestone that signals a significant shift in a couple’s relationship.

It can often come with quite a bit of pressure, with choosing the right moment - not to mention the perfect ring - often high stress factors. Some people want a private and intimate proposal that’s been well thought out with sweet, insightful gestures to highlight the true love between the couple.

Others are more in favour of an over-the-top, elaborate and theatrical proposal that draws a crowd. Some are also hopeful the moment has been recorded on film so they can look back on it and remember it forever.

Not everyone plans to film their proposal and, in some instances, strangers step in and help. This can be accidental, when people just happen to be filming while a proposal unfolds in the background or nearby, or it could be people who spot a proposal is imminent so start recording with the intention of helping the couple.

One woman, named Lauren, was grateful a kind-hearted stranger stepped in to record the moment her partner proposed to her.

In the footage, Lauren’s then-boyfriend is seen down on one knee in front of what appears to be a bar. Industrial-style metal chairs surround the couple, with seated patrons behind them clearly recognising the milestone moment unfolding in front of them.

Many of them can be seen starting to film and record the proposal.

One person, standing further back, caught the moment Lauren said yes. In the video, the couple can then be seen embracing before Lauren’s fiancé stands back up and pulls her into a tight cuddle.

This is where the stranger’s mistake becomes apparent - they forgot to turn off a Snapchat filter. When Lauren’s now-husband stood back up and hugged her close to him, the filter dramatically elongated his nose to cartoonish proportions.

As he holds Lauren tightly, his “nose” can be seen wobbling about.

The humorous effect transformed the already memorable moment into something else entirely, clearly resonating with social media users when it was shared on TikTok.

The proposal was viewed more than 7.3 million times, but Lauren turned off the option to comment so people were unable to share their thoughts.

Over the top of the footage, she wrote: “When a stranger records your engagement and forgets to remove a snap filter."

In the caption accompanying the clip, she added: “Ladies... I have some stories lol [crying laughing emoji] this was when a stranger recorded our engagement but had a snap filter on."

Snapchat has a vast range of filters available for people to use, with users also permitted to create their own with Lens Studio, the messaging juggernaut’s free augmented reality (AR) platform.
